The acting headteacher of a top Leicestershire school has been dismissed following a claim of "professional misconduct".

A formal investigation was launched earlier this year following the allegation against James Rich.

He was the acting headteacher of Leicester Grammar School at the time.

A hearing was due to take place on the 31 October but was pushed back and took place on 29th November.

A spokesperson for Leicester Grammar School said: "A disciplinary hearing has reviewed the evidence.

"It has found Mr Rich guilty of professional misconduct and he has been dismissed from his employment."

A letter was sent to parents explaining the situation.

The letter states: "The trust community has been shocked and saddened by this whole business but we have taken heart from the very positive and supportive reaction of the huge majority of the parents."

Mr Rich was dismissed on December 10.

No details about the nature of the allegation have been made public.

It's understood Mr Rich has chosen to appeal the decision. That appeal will take place on January 11.
