Rutland Water Beach will be closed for the whole of the bank holiday weekend due to high levels of poisonous algae.

The beach has been closed since it was shut down last Saturday.

Rutland Water bosses at Anglian Water have said that the Aqua Park and the water sports section will be open as usual.

A spokesperson said: “We will continue to test the water to ensure we can open the beach as soon as possible.

“We would like to apologise to the public who were looking to visit the beach, however the health and safety of our visitors is our priority.”

In a statement online, a spokesperson said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes to bank holiday plans, however we must put our visitors' health first.”

Rutland Water Beach and Aqua Park were closed a couple of times last month  due to the presence of the algae.

Things to do when the weather gets HOT

The hot weather has led to the rapid growth of the algae, which is dangerous for humans and animals.
