Across Leicestershire there are now 1,657 people who have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England figures released today.

Throughout the UK, there are now 190,584 confirmed Covid-19 patients, a rise of 3,985 in 24 hours.

And the nationwide death toll now stands at 28,734, which represents an increase of 288 over the same period.

Of the 1,657 people in Leicestershire who have tested positive, 14 of them are within the Leicester City Council area and the other 19 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, released today, it represents a rise of 14 and 19 respectively over 24 hours.

The total of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 and have died at the city’s hospitals today stands at 239.

Victims in Leicester have been aged between their 20s and 90s.

The UK is in its seventh week of lockdown as, around the globe, people are being ordered to stay away from anyone not from their household in order to reduce the transmission of the virus, which causes flu symptoms.
