New figures show there are now 1,860 people in Leicestershire who have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England figures released today.

Throughout the UK, there are now 226,463 confirmed Covid-19 patients, a rise of 3,403 in 24 hours.

And the nationwide death toll now stands at 32,692, which represents an increase of 627 over the same period.

Of the 1,860 people in Leicestershire who have tested positive, 780 of them are within the Leicester City Council area and the other 1,080 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, released today, it represents a rise of 10 and five respectively over 24 hours.

As of today (Wednesday May 13) the number of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 and have died at the city’s hospitals stands at 283.

Victims in Leicester have been aged between their 20s and 90s.

LeicestershireLive today reported that 70 care home residents in the city have died. Officials have also revealed there have been outbreaks of Covid-19 at 23 care homes since the start of the pandemic.

It comes on the day some lockdown rules were relaxed leading to parks re-opening and shoppers being able to visit garden centres.

Sports including golf and tennis are now permitted and people can meet one member of another household in parks, but they must remain 2m away from each other.
