New analysis shows the Leicestershire postcodes that experienced the highest rise in property prices during the last full calendar year.

The Reach Plc Data Unit used Land Registry data to analyse postcodes with at least five sales in 2017 and 2018.

It found that postcodes beginning LE67 8 in North West Leicestershire experienced the third highest rise, with the average price of sold properties rising by 39 per cent to £266,500.

The second highest rise was seen by postcodes starting LE6 0 in Charnwood, with prices up 40 per cent in a year from an average £390,000 in 2017 to £546,250 in 2018.

But properties with postcodes starting LE2 2 experienced the highest rise overall during the period.

The Leicester postcode covers areas including Oadby, Knighton, Highfields, Aylestone and Glen Parva.

Here, the average sold property price soared by almost 60 per cent - from £113,000 in 2017, to £180,000 in 2018.

Across the rest of Leicestershire in 2018, while 90 postcodes saw prices rise, 33 saw prices drop.

The area with the biggest drop in prices was NG32 1 in Melton, where the average price fell 44 per cent from £334,000 in 2017, to £187,000 in 2018.

The study added that changes in price may be due to more demand pushing up prices, or a changing type of property being sold in the area, particularly if new homes have been built.

However it also noted that since the data includes all property sizes and types, it can only give a general indication of the local housing market.
