Leicester is in for a bank holiday weekend of two-wheeled fun as a free cycling festival takes over the city.

Events are taking place as part of the city council’s Ride Leicester festival, which runs until August 31.

The annual celebration of the city's cycling scene is a chance for everyone to get on a bike, regardless of age or ability.

A mass participation bike ride will see thousands of people ride round Leicester city centre on Sunday.

Here is what is happening each day over the bank holiday weekend.

On Saturday, August 24, professional rider Thomas Raeymaekers, from Belgium, will share his experiences as a cyclist at Orso coffee shop, 4 Market Place.

Thomas rides with Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, and will talk about being part of a team where all riders compete with type 1 diabetes.

The talk is free, but you can book your place by clicking here.

HSBC UK Let’s Ride Leicester - formerly Skyride - will see thousands of people riding around the city centre as streets are closed to traffic and opened up for people to enjoy.

The event takes place between midday and 4pm on Sunday along a 3.7 mile route, and is open to anyone and is free to join - at any time and at any point on its route.

It will be led off, at 12pm, from De Montfort University campus by two high-profile riders and Leicester city mascot Filbert Fox.

They’ll lead riders on a route that includes a lap inside the King Power Stadium, Leicester Castle, Leicester Cathedral and Jubilee Square.
