Drivers are being advised to avoid a Leicester street after a collision.

Area Traffic Control says emergency services are dealing with an incident on Troon Way which has shut the road.

The route is blocked at Nickalaus Road, for traffic heading to Barkby Road from Melton Road.

They said: "Avoid the area if you can."

All lanes open

Recovery work has been completed and traffic is back to normal levels.

Area Traffic Control tweeted: “#Leicester travel update 10:58 - it’s better news accident recovery work completed on Troon Way - all lanes are open and traffic is back to normal in both directions between Melton Rd and Barkby Rd Rbt.”

Casualty taken to hospital

East Midlands Ambulance Service said that one person has been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.07am this morning, 18 March to Nicklaus Road, Leicester. The caller reported an RTC.

“We sent two paramedics in two ambulance cars and a crewed ambulance. We transported one patient to Leicester Royal Infirmary.”

Traffic building

Traffic information provider Inrix sent out an update.

It said: “A563 Troon Way in both directions partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident, two cars involved from A607 Melton Road to Nicklaus Road.

“Traffic building up on surrounding approaches.”

Minor injuries

Police have said that no one was badly hurt in the crash.

A spokesperson said: “There doesn’t appear to be anyone with life threatening injuries.”

A person at the scene also said that there appeared to be “only minor injuries”.

One person trapped

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control tweeted about the crash:

Crews from @LFRSEastern & @LFRSWestern are dealing with a Road traffic collision on the junction of Troon way & Nicklaus road in Leicester. Incident involves 2 cars, 1 person trapped.

Two vehicles involved

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police provided details about the incident.

They said: “We were called at 9.22am to a report of a two vehicle collision.

“The road is blocked and recovery vehicles are on their way.”

East Midlands Ambulance Service is also in attendance.
