A main road in the centre of Coalville has been closed after reports of an injury.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to Belvoir Road at 1.45pm today.

Several Leicestershire Police vehicles can be seen in the street, close to the premises of Lee Cooper Independent Funeral Director's.

A police cordon was put in place stretching several hundred yards from Coalville Clock Tower, in Memorial Square, towards Hugglescote.

The road remains shut as investigators continue to examine the scene.

The air ambulance is reported to have landed in nearby Avenue Road, close to Coalville fire station.

It has not been confirmed whether someone has been seriously injured, or if there were several people hurt. Eyewitnesses report seeing at least one casualty seen "covered in blood" in the street

A spokeswoman for the Leicestershire force said: "We were called to an incident in Belvoir Road, Coalville, at 12.45pm today."

She could not confirm the precise nature of the incident, or further details at this stage.

Man suffers 'life-changing injuries' after suspected hit and run, and assault

Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old has suffered "life-changing injuries" in a hit and run collision. A spokesman also confirmed that he was assaulted in the incident.
