UPDATE: the man has been released from custody but remains 'under investigation', Leicestershire Police said

A man has been arrested after a teenager was stabbed in Leicester city centre in broad daylight.

The 24-year-old from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident which happened on Wednesday.

He currently remains in police custody.

Police were called at 5.50pm on Wednesday following the incident at the junction between Charles Street and Humberstone Gate.

A 19-year-old man suffered a stab wound and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. He has since been discharged.

Cordons were put in place in Humberstone Gate and Charles Street. They have since been removed.

It is understood a group of men had been fighting in the area at the time of the incident.

Enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Constable Jen Golden said: “We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to make contact.

“Did you see a group of people in the area? Do you have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time? If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, we urge you to get in touch.
