When you think of heroes or vigilantes you might think of super powers, evil villains and a quest to save the world.

Unfortunately superheroes like we see in the movies don't exist, but not all heroes wear capes. There is one real person out there in Leicestershire trying to make a difference.

That hero, is "Peter".

"Peter" doesn't wear a cape, he doesn't have super powers and even he acknowledges that he can't save the world.

But he's doing all he can to improve the area that he lives in - a town called South Wigston.

He is known only as "Peter from P.A.D" and has taken to social media over the last six months to post about the work he has been doing around the town on behalf of the community.

His true identity is not known, despite much speculation as to who he may be.

The abbreviation P.A.D stands for Peter against drugs.

"The whole place needed cleaning up."

"Peter" wanders around the town highlighting issues with the area that some people may not necessarily notice, reporting them to the authorities or even addressing them himself, according to some of his posts.

Speaking to Leicestershire Live he said: "I’m a local lad I don’t want any thanks for anything I do - I just like to live in a safe and happy area where things are nice.

"I see loads of rubbish everywhere in Wigston, it's not nice to look at.

"The whole place needed cleaning up, I have brought attention to the area, the locals can see what I've done."

The main issue he said he sees is blatant vandalism and broken bottles in areas where kids play in parks.

He puts the reason for these problems down to there not being enough youth facilities or activities and he said "we need more places for the kids to enjoy".

But despite the work he has carried out over the past months, there has been mixed reviews about his existence.

"I've always said I ain't going to change the world I just want to change a little bit of South Wigston."

A vote was carried out on the Spotted South Wigston Facebook page - where he documents his actions - as to whether his posts should be allowed to be published.

Around a thousand people voted, with 66 per cent saying yes and 34 per cent no. Because of the vote he has continued his "one man crusade".

"Peter" has highlighted many issues around the borough to do with things such as littering, small as they might be but he says his own personal impact "doesn't matter".

"As long as I have changed a little bit and everybody's happy.

"I've always said I ain't going to change the world I just want to change a little bit of South Wigston.

"The outcome is to make the borough a better and nicer place to live in today's world.

"It's always what's in it for you, but with me it's what I can do for my community to make everybody start their day smiling and being happy."

He added that he has relatives in Eyres Monsell and Saffron Lane and said that he is thinking of doing the same in those areas too.

His impact he says, has been noticeable and said "we noticed the parks are a lot cleaner... the bins were emptied and the street's looking a bit cleaner, so somebody's taking notice."

His work has been questioned numerous times and "Pete" may not be the hero that everyone in South Wigston wants, but he might just be the hero that South Wigston deserves.
