There are now 1,680 people across the county who have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England figures released today.

Throughout the UK, there are now 194,990 confirmed Covid-19 patients, a rise of 4,406 in 24 hours.

And the nationwide death toll now stands at 29,427, which represents an increase of 693 over the same period.

Of the 1,680 people in Leicestershire who have tested positive, 696 of them are within the Leicester City Council area and the other 984 are in the Leicestershire County Council area.

The total of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 and have died at the city’s hospitals stood at 246 - with seven new patients sadly passing since yesterday's figures.

Victims in Leicester have been aged between their 20s and 90s.

The UK is in its seventh week of lockdown as, around the globe, people are being ordered to stay away from anyone not from their household in order to reduce the transmission of the virus, which causes flu symptoms.
