People are being warned not be alarmed over two ‘flaming planes’ in the night skies over Leicester.

Two mysterious aircraft have been spotted lighting up the night sky this evening.

One LeicestershireLive reader said they witnessed “two planes both on fire” while another said they saw “objects with flames on them which then disappear”.

But there is no need to be alarmed.

Leicestershire Police have been forced to issue a message to reassure residents that they are aware of the situation over the city.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of a planned event where fireworks are being set off from planes in the Wigston and Leicester area.

“Please do not report this to the police as we have been advised by the organisers already.

“The same will be happening tomorrow (Saturday) in the Bruntingthorpe area.”
