A spokeswoman said: "Sadly, we can confirm that 347 patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for Covid-19, have died.

"Four of those deaths have been announced today (30 May, 2020). The ages of the patients range between those in their 70s to those in their 90s.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the patients at this very difficult and distressing time."

The deaths confirmed today do not include people who have tested positive for the virus and passed away in other settings such as their own homes and care homes.

As of Tuesday this week city public health officials said 88 of some 2,000 residents of Leicester care homes had died after becoming infected with coronavirus.
