Three police officers were injured stopping stolen cars getting away.

The officers used their vehicles to box in two stolen cars before jumping out to detain seven suspects.

The officers carried out the driving manoeuvre and arrested the men in Sileby, near Loughborough,  yesterday.

They were sent to the village at 1.20pm to investigate a sighting of two stolen vehicles, both of which were carrying cloned registration plates, in Greedon Rise.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: "The cars were found in the area and police blocked them in using two unmarked vehicles.

"In the process of the two stolen vehicles attempting to leave the scene, one of the police cars was damaged while the other forced one of the suspect cars to stop in a controlled manoeuvre.

"The occupants of both cars were detained at the scene."

Sgt Jordan Robson, from the force's roads policing unit, said: “This was great teamwork between a member of the public reporting their concerns and police providing an immediate response.

“Our thanks go to the member of the public who made the report and we encourage anyone with any concerns such as a suspicious vehicle, or a person acting suspiciously in your area, we urge you to report it to us. We will act on your concerns.”

A 22-year-old man, from Wigston, an 18-year-old man from Syston, and five men, aged 20, 17, 16, 15 and 15, and all from Loughborough, were arrested in connection with the incident.

The 18-year-old and the 16-year-old remain in police custody.

The other five suspects have been released under investigation.

The injured officers had minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
