A woman who was injured in a hit and run crash earlier this week is still in hospital, police said today.

The woman, who is in her 50s, was hit by a silver Volkswagen Golf GTI in St Matthews Way, Leicester at 1.25pm on Monday.

Leicestershire Police issued an update on the case today, revealing that the car, a hire vehicle with the registration PL18 TGE, was later found in the nearby Belgrave area of the city.

The woman was using the crossing near the junction with Wharf Street North when she was hit.

The car was travelling towards the roundabout near Humberstone Road.

Detective Constable Seamus Burns, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: “Today, I’m asking for any motorists who were travelling along St Matthews Way, or who were in that area at the time of the collision, to come forward.

Police are appealing for witnesses

“If you have a dashcam in your vehicle, please check for any footage that it may have recorded.

"Even if you don’t have a dashcam, I would like to speak to you if you saw the car in question and have any details about the person who was driving.

“I’d also like to speak to anyone who saw the silver Golf either before or after the collision happened. Any information you have could help with my investigation.”
