Summer is often the time we decide we need to clear out our homes and get rid of any clutter that we haven't used for years.

And while the kids are off school for six weeks, it's also a good time to shift them into gear and get them to sort out any broken or unused toys.

Of course it's also the season when we attempt to be green-fingered and reinvent our gardens.

All of which leaves us with a mountain of rubbish we need to dispose of.

Leicester City Centre's recycling centres, or tips, are the place to do this, but they can often be associated with long queues.

So Leicester City Council's recycling service has now taken to Twitter to reveal when is the best time to visit the tips if you want to avoid queues.

The recycling service has confirmed weekdays after 4pm is the quietest time to visit the tips.

Both Freemen's Common and Gypsum Close tips are open from 8am to 8pm during the summer months of April to October, and 8am to 6pm from November to March.

So that gives you a four hour slot each week day where you should be able to dump your unwanted rubbish without enduring too much queue related stress.
