Staff and customers who were inside Sugar and Ice as a car crashed into the shop window have been left badly shaken.

A vehicle crashed into Sugar and Ice in Hotel Street, Coalville at around 12.30pm on Saturday June 15.

It is believed the driver had a 'medical emergency' at the wheel that caused the incident.

One man was taken to hospital but no one is believed to be seriously injured.

The owner and manager of Sugar and Ice, Debbie Bass was in the shop at the time of the incident, along with another member of staff and two customers.

She said: "Myself and my Saturday girl were talking to a customer at the counter.

People were inside the shop when the incident happened.

"We heard a noise and myself and the customer both looked round.

"I shouted 'dive' and the customer grabbed her daughter and moved.

"The car was going at speed and came through the window.

"We all got out the way and thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, just badly shaken.

"There were no serious injuries which is an absolute blessing.

"My main concern was to check the driver and his wife were OK. I took the keys and turned the engine off.

"They were both shocked and he was taken to hopsital. I haven't had an update yet.

"I didn't see what happened with the other cars."

Despite what happened on Saturday, the business remained open.

Mrs Bass said: "Luckily all the cakes were already collected for that day and we have a rear entrance so any customers could come through that way.

"The window is gone and quite a lot of fixtures and fittings and stock were damaged.

"The local community were brilliant. All the shop keepers came out to help.

"We've had so many offers of help and support.

"Customers have been so sweet and have offered to stay and help tidy up.

"The shop is safe and secure now. The landlord came and boarded up the window.

"The staff will be doing a general clean today and making sure the dust has settled.

"We will need to have the insurance people in and see where we go from here."
