Travellers have been asked to leave a public park near two schools in Enderby.

The group of caravans parked up on the evening of Wednesday, July 10, on a field off Mill Lane which is opposite Danemill Primary School and near to Brockington College.

A spokesperson for the city and county councils' Multi Agency Travellers Unit said the travellers arrived at the site during the night.

The spokesperson added: "We have served them a notice to vacate the site by 4pm on Saturday, 13 July, which will be enforced by the police.”

Leicestershire Police said the force received a report from a member of the public at 8.28pm on July 10 saying that a number of vehicles had moved onto the grass.

A passerby said they saw at least 10 vehicles parked on the site.

A parent with a 13-year-old child at Brockington College said they had been sent a message by the school on the afternoon of July 11. The parent said the message stated that the gates in Mill Lane would be shut at home time on that day, and for all of today, and that pupils were to use the main entrance in Blaby Road.

Brockington College and Leicestershire County Council have been contacted for a comment.
