Motorists are being warned to brace themselves for delays when work begins to resurface the A5.

CoventryLive reported that a six-mile section between the Dodwells Roundabout in Hinckley and the B4111 junction near Atherstone will be repaired and improved between July 3 and August 11.

Traffic will be diverted through Nuneaton at times when the road has to be closed completely.

Those times will include each night from 8pm until 6am during the programme.

As well as resurfacing the road, the closures will allow the entire stretch to have new line markings, anti-slip surfacing and new road studs.

The work will include safety improvements to the junction with Woodford Lane, near Fenny Drayton, which has been the scene of several accidents in recent years, including fatal crashes.

Highways England says the works to add anti-slip surfacing should help reduce accidents at the junction.

The closure will also pave the way for other key maintenance tasks to be undertaken by both Severn Trent and Cadent.

A signed diversion will be in operation through Nuneaton while the work gets underway and drivers are asked to plan their route and expect some delay.

Highways England are warning that height restrictions on some diversion routes will apply.
