A driver has labelled the traffic in Coalville this morning 'absolute chaos' as people queued for over an hour along the town's bypass.

One driver wrote on Twitter that they queued for over an hour this morning with traffic backed up from Bardon all the way back to Sinope.

They added: "Absolute chaos at every roundabout with traffic gridlocked!".

Another driver said: "Just sat in gridlocked Coalville for 70mins since 8am, suspect temp traffic lights on main road before Shell garage, sequencing completely to pot!"

Area Traffic Control tweeted about the incident after receiving several complaints by the public.

They released a statement confirming temporary lights as the issue causing the traffic adding the roadworks are set to be removed this afternoon.

The statement says: "Temporary lights on the A511 Bardon Road will be taken off in the next hour.

"Roadworks have overrun from yesterday near to John Cooper Way but they have been completed now. Just waiting for Tarmac to dry."
