A police operation, including armed officers and a National Police Air Service helicopter, was mounted in a village near Lutterworth yesterday.

Police were called to Mere Road, in Bitteswell, at around 3.45pm by a member of the public reporting she had been threatened by a man.

The woman was found safe and well.

People took to the Lutterworth Town Facebook page with one asking: “Any idea what’s going on in Bitteswell, on Ullesthorpe Road. Loads of police and some in riot gear!"

Another said: “Just been past Mere Lane and it’s hovering above the fields behind, not sure what about but there is loads people on the road down Mere Lane.”

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to Mere Road in Bitteswell at around 3.45pm yesterday (Monday 10 June) by a member of the public reporting she had been threatened by a man.

“In the interest of officer and public safety armed officers were deployed to the area and carried out a search for the suspect.

“The woman was located safe and well.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the report are continuing.

“At this stage no arrests have been made.”
