Changes are being made to the plans for the HS2 railway through the county.

The line between Birmingham and Leeds will pass close to Ashby as it follows the route of the A42 through Leicestershire.

New consultation documents show some alterations to the shift the route and to allow for a temporary construction depot at Ashby .

The documents state: “The Secretary of State is minded to introduce a temporary railhead near junction 13 of the A42 and the Leicester to Burton upon Trent line, to support the construction of the railway.”

There are various proposed changes to the route to line will take between Ashby and Diseworth.

The realignment affects an eight-mile section and is necessary to avoid former open-cast mines and old landfill sites.

It will take place at the school in North Street from 12 noon until 5pm on Saturday, June 29.

There are also information points featuring permanent displays at the libraries in Measham, Ashby, Coalville and Kegworth.

Construction of the line through Leicestershire is expected to begin in 2023.
