Young swimmers had to be evacuated from a pool in Hinckley after some poo was found in the water.

The lesson in the communal pool at Hinckley Leisure Centre had to be abandoned after the stool was found, in the early evening of Sunday August 11.

One parent, who had a five-year-old boy in the pool when it happened, said they were worried for his health.

They said: “I was disgusted. My son had his face in the water with that in the bottom.”

A spokesperson for Hinckley Leisure Centre said: “Our pool procedures in the event of contamination follow stringent industry guidance.

"Tests were undertaken to ensure that the pool water quality adhered to industry standards before swimmers were allowed to return.”

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council was told about the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Environmental Health was satisfied that Hinckley Leisure Centre had followed the necessary guidance, and that was the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group Code of Practice.”

The code’s guidance on dealing with faeces suggests closing the pool for half an hour while it is cleaned and disinfected.
