Occupiers of a council flat in Hinckley have been banned from the premises over reports of anti-social behaviour and "drug activity".

Neighbours had complained to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council a number of times concerning anti-social incidents at flat 60 in Ferness Road.

The council received complaints of noise at the premises - which is a council owned flat.

As a result on March 28 an anti-social behaviour closure notice was issued by the borough council and Hinckley police.

This notice effectively bans all visitors to the property at all times.

The following week the borough council obtained a full closure order from Leicester Magistrates Court.

Madeline Shellard, the council's ASB and tenancy manager, said: “Complaints have been received from local residents about activity and unacceptable behaviour at this address.

"It is completely unacceptable that local residents are being subjected to this level of nuisance.

"People living nearby have the right to live in safety and peace without having to tolerate this.

”We would like to thank our partners and everyone in the community who came forward with the evidence that enabled us to obtain the closure order.”

A copy of the closure order has been displayed outside the house and anyone breaching it could be arrested and, if found guilty, could face a punishment of up to 51 weeks in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
