Wooden posts will be installed around a strip of grass in Hinckley to prevent travellers parking up there.

The timber poles will be put in place around the open space between Whitworth Avenue and Canal Way and the Ashby Canal, after neighbours complained about caravans pitching up there several times over the past few years.

Taylor Wimpey owns the land and will be paying for the fixtures.

A spokesperson for the developer said: “We are pleased to confirm that we shall be erecting timber posts to help to deter any future traveller incursions.

“The works to install the timber posts are scheduled to start in April 2019.”

A Hinckley and Bosworth Borough councillor wrote to the land owner twice in February 2019 to ask the group to install a fence to dissuade people from parking up there, as this time of year is often when incidents happen.

Travellers last parked on the strip of grass in August 2018 and there were other incidents in 2015 and 2016.

A spokesperson for the council said that it had previously advised Taylor Wimpey to erect fencing around the grass.
