A town centre street in Hinckley is to be shut to traffic for the next three weeks to allow a water main to be fixed.

Leicestershire County Council announced that they had agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order along Stockwell Head so that Severn Trent Water could carry out the work and that the closure was necessary for public safety.

Several of the premises along the road, including the Concordia Theatre, are currently closed anyway due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The council said in a statement: “An emergency road closure is required on Stockwell Head, Hinckley, on the 21st April 2020 for up to 21 days.

“The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be implemented for public safety for Severn Trent Water to undertake the repair of a large water main.

“Leicestershire County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during these works.”

An alternative diversion route will be signed in the area for traffic and, while access to properties along the street will be maintained, people using and of the premises along Stockwell Head has been warned there may be a “short delay in gaining access by occur whilst the area is made safe”.
