A driver had to be stretchered out of the boot of his car after crashing into a ditch.

Emergency services were called to Bosworth Road in Kirkby Mallory, near Hinckley, at about 4.30pm yesterday.

At the request of Leicestershire Police , two fire crews from Coalville and Hinckley attended to help paramedics get the casualty out of his vehicle, which was a hatchback car.

It took about half an hour to extricate the man, who was strapped onto a long board and manoeuvred to a waiting ambulance by the firefighters.

In their report on the incident, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “One vehicle road traffic collision, car on its side in a ditch with one male trapped.

“Fire service extricated the casualty from the vehicle using a long board via the rear hatchback.

"Casualty being transported to hospital by land ambulance.”
