The first ever charging points for electric cars in Hinckley could soon be installed in two car parks.

Planners at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council are considering splashing out on the special kit, with a feasibility study underway to set out the costs involved.

A spokesperson for the authority said: “We are getting surveys done of all five car parks.

“There needs to be enough electricity available in the immediate area.

"That can make a huge difference to the costs of installing it.

“Based on that, we will decide which two car parks are the best and we will decide how many charging points to install.”

The five car parks being surveyed are Church Walk, Hill Street, St Mary’s Road, Trinity Lane East and Lower Bond Street.

E-car reviewer James Coates lives in the town and said that the charging points would be essential for owners without a driveway.

“They need to be in the right place and available. It’s no use having chargers that people can’t access”, he said.

Electric car driver James Coates lives in Hinckley.

However, he said that a common problem with having them in car parks is that the space fills up and e-drivers can’t access the facility.

James creates YouTube reviews of electric cars and bikes.

Earlier this year, he drove a Renault Twizy in a race against a cyclist on an electric bike from Aberdeen to Hinckley.

They then headed down to Silverstone where they put the two vehicles on display at Fully Charged Live, an electric vehicles show.
