A sports bar is having its licence reviewed after a string of alleged disturbances.

Signs were put up on the front of The Gravity, in Hinckley, giving notice of the review.

It comes after there were 46 recorded incidents at the venue since January 2019.

The Regent Street bar has been closed since March 20, shortly before the Covid-19 lockdown came into effect.

A spokesperson for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said the application for review of the premises licence was made by the manager of Leicestershire Police's force licensing department.

The application to review relates to the prevention of crime and disorder; public safety; the prevention of public nuisance; the protection of children from harm.

“Due to Gravity’s operating hours and location, the premises attracts people who have already visited other premises as part of night time economy within the town, during which they would have been consuming alcohol," it reads.

“They then attend Gravity to continue their night out, where they continue to drink more alcohol which leads to people becoming intoxicated, this in turn leads to disorder, violence, crime and antisocial behaviour, both inside and outside the club."

The application adds that, since 6 January 2019, there have been 46 recorded incidents that either occurred inside the venue or directly outside of it.

“Due to some of the incidents still being under investigation, the hearing will be held in camera as a closed meeting and will not be open to the public or press to attend,” it adds.

LeicestershireLive asked Leicestershire Police for comment about the ongoing investigations.

A spokeswoman said: “The incidents mentioned relate to two separate assaults where the investigations remain ongoing.

“The assaults took place in March this year.

“A 47-year-old man is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.”

The hearing is due to be held in June, with the date still to be agreed with members of the licensing committee.

The Gravity was contacted for comment.
