Road works are causing long tailbacks on a main junction in Hinckley during rush hour.

Cadent is carrying out the essential gas mains works where the A47 crosses Ashby Road, with multi-direction temporary traffic lights in place.

One resident of Ashby Road said it took them 15 minutes to get off their drive.

A spokesperson for Cadent said: “This essential work involves replacing ageing gas mains with tough new pipes which should last until the dawn of the 22nd century, helping to ensure that local homes, businesses and community facilities keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.”

They also said: “Work has also been taking place to replace gas service pipes to properties on the Ashby Road Service Road, and residents are reminded to ask engineers to show their official identity cards before allowing access, where engineers need to come into properties to carry out work.”

The work is scheduled to finish on Monday March 11, with gas mains replacement works continuing on Ashby Road until the end of March 2019.
