Police are investigating a 'suspicious' fire at a disused caravan site.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a huge caravan fire in Melton Mowbray last night (March 18).

Seven caravans were alight when the fire service attended.

The fire service were called to the scene at 9.15pm yesterday to find seven caravans on fire.

Three fire engines attended the scene as well as a water carrier to extinguish the flames.

The caravan site was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

No-one was injured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but is believed to be suspicious.

Firefighters are currently investigating this morning.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "We are investigating a fire at a disused caravan site in Sandy Lane.

"We were called by the fire service at 9.34pm on Monday night.

"A number of the caravans were found alight.

"Enquiries are continuing into the cause but it is believed to be suspicious.

"Anyone with information should contact Pc 9719 Ian McGrath on 101."
