It looks open, at least

No updates from Highways England or Inrix yet, but this section definitely looked like it had one lane closed earlier.

Things seem to be improving

It looks like traffic is beginning to move again after the crash. It could still be a while before things get back to normal but it appears the lanes are all open now.

Car could have hit central reservation

The Inrix traffic service is reporting that two vehicles were involved, with at least one having struck the central reservation, which could lead to longer delays if repairs are required.

The Inrix update states: “One lane closed and delays due to accident; two cars involved on M1 southbound from J21 to J20.

“Lane three of three is closed. Camera appears to show that one car has hit the central reservation and there is now a broken down car on the hard shoulder.”

Queue continuing to grow

The queue is now about four miles long, stretching from the Dunton Bassett area to about level with Narborough.

Google Maps traffic service uses location data from phones to work out traffic speeds.
