Highways England is warning motorists of delays around the A50 junction with the M1 following a collision.

Lanes are blocked eastbound near Castle Donington on the A50 as it joins the M1 near East Midlands Airport.

Two lanes are closed due to a "multiple vehicle RTC".

Drivers should "plan for delays" they say.

Two incidents, one was a break down

Highways England has now confirmed that both incidents were on the westbound carriageway of the A50.

The incident which happened close to the M1 was a multi-car crash involving three cars at around 7.20am. Highways England were in charge of this recovery which has now been completed and the road has been re-opened.

The other incident happened shortly after the collision, but was a broken down vehicle near J3 of the A50. This was cleared by 8.37am.

Road fully re-open

Highways England has tweeted to confirm that the A50 between J1 and the M1 has now fully re-opened after an earlier collision.

Queues on M1 from J23A

Another motorway camera is showing heavy traffic from J23A on the northbound carriageway for East Midlands Airport.

The camera positioned at J22 for Coalville is showing a clearer road and less traffic. It appears that traffic begins to build between J22 and J23A.

Closure refers to M1 slip road

Traffic monitoring company, Inrix, has updated information to say the lane closures refer to the entry slip road of the M1.

Two lanes joining the A50 to the M1 northbound at J24 are closed, causing heavy traffic and queues.

Police called

Leicestershire Police were called to an incident involving two cars at the junction between the A453 and the A50.

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed they were called at 7.22am and attended. They have now handed the incident over to Highways England.

Heavy traffic is also building on the A453 from Kegworth Road to M1 J24 for East Midlands Airport.

It appears that traffic is heavy on surrounding roads close to the A50 and J24 of the M1, including Derby Road into Kegworth and the A453 in both directions.

Lanes two and three closed

Traffic monitoring company, Inrix, says lanes two and three (of three) are closed on the eastbound carriageway.

It also says there is queuing traffic to J24 of the M1 for East Midlands Airport.

Google Maps traffic is now reporting two crashes on the A50, indicated by the car symbol in the red circle.

The eastbound collision is reported as a ‘crash on the ramp’ and the the westbound incident is reported as ‘crash on A50’.

Another incident on the A50

Highways England has tweeted again to warn drivers about another RTC on the westbound carriageway of the A50.

This incident is in the same area between J1 and the M1.

They have reported that this is another multi-vehicle collision.

Further delays expected.
