A rural road in North West Leicestershire is shut following a crash this morning.

Swepstone Road was closed by emergency services just after 5am today due to a road traffic collision.

The collision is at the junction with the B4116.

The road remained shut two hours later.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "Please use alternative routes, thank you."

The road has now reopened

The road has now reopened between the B4116 Ashby Road, Measham, and Swepstone village following this morning's crash.

Driver taken to hospital trauma unit with serious but 'non life-threatening' injuries

The male driver of the car involved in this morning's crash has been take to the major trauma unit at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to Leicestershire Police. The road remains closed. For more, click here.

The road remains closed almost 5 hours after the crash

Swepstone Road remains closed in both directions between the B4116 (Measham) and Swepstone Village (Swepstone), according to traffic website, Inrix.
The road has been closed since abount 5.10am.

Drive safely message from Ashby crews too

Ashby firefighters who attended the crash have also shared a drive safely warning.

They said in a post to Facebook: "In the early hours this morning crews from Ashby and Coalville Fire Stations were called out to this RTC near Swepstone.

"When driving please always consider our Fatal 4 message - SEATBELTS , MOBILE PHONE , DRINK AND DRUG DRIVING AND SPEEDING.

"Any one of these four things done whilst driving could be fatal to anyone in the vehicle."

Single vehicle involved

They say single car had been involved in a collision.

Occupants of the vehicle - the driver and a passenger - were out by the time they arrived.

Ambulance service was called to attend, and one person was taken to hospital.

FIre crews have provided details of their involvement.

They say that crews from Ashby and Coalville stations were deployed after they were notified by police of the crash at 4.45am today.
