A car and a van are believed to have been involved in a head-on collision on the A5 south of Hinckley.

The crash is thought to have taken place near Smockington Hollow and the turning for the village of Wolvey shortly after 2pm.

Police have confirmed they are on the scene.

The road is now clear

The road has been cleared and traffic is flowing again, according to police.

Police statement

The police have issued a statement on the collision. A spokeswoman for the force said: “We received a call shortly after 2pm to a road traffic collision on the A5/Watling Street at Smockington Hollow, near Burbage.

“Two vehicles were involved - a van and a car - and the road was blocked while emergency services dealt with the incident.”

She added: “The ambulance service was in attendance, however, there are no reports of any injuries at this stage.”

Crash involved a transit van and a car

A motorist who drove past the scene shortly after the crash said it involved a “white transit van and a green car”. The man, who did not want to be named, said: “It looked pretty nasty indeed.”
