An 18-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent after a woman was stabbed in the leg in Loughborough at the weekend.

Hani Gebrehiwet-Habte, of Royland Road, in the town, is due to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court today (June 11).

The charge is in connection with an incident which happened in Burleigh Road during the early hours of June 9.

A woman was left with serious injuries after being stabbed three times in her upper thigh at around 2.25am.

She was discharged after treatment at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre.

UPDATE, June 12: Gebrehiwet-Habte appeared at court today (June 12) and entered no plea. He was remanded to custody.

He is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court on July 17.
