A police officer was injured during an incident in Melton town centre, where a car was seized and its driver arrested.

Leicestershire Police have only released a few details on the incident, involving a black Volkswagen, in a series of tweets over the weekend.

Yesterday evening the Melton police said on Twitter: “Vehicle seized this evening on Sherrard Street, Melton Mowbray.

“Driver is now residing in custody. Unfortunately one police officer injured during the process.”

They then tweeted this afternoon that the police officer who was hurt in Melton was alright and that the driver arrested had been released on bail while further investigations are carried out.

The second tweet said: “Update from yesterday when the officer was injured.

"The officer involved is safe and well and the suspect has been released under investigation.”
