Works have started to install a new building society branch in Hinckley’s The Crescent complex .

Coventry Building Society will be moving from its current outlet in the town on Regent Street into a previously unused unit, next to Belvoir estate agents.

A spokesman for the group said that they hope to have the new place up and running by November, with a cash machine to be installed outside the branch on the main walkway.

Builders from interior fitting group Hurst are accessing the site via the former Louisianna Chicken restaurant , which closed in June 2018 and is next door to the unit.

Workers are accessing the site where a new branch of Coventry Building Society is being built in Hinckley via the former Louisianna Chicken restaurant.

The society was granted permission to set up the outlet in May 2019, including a sliding door entrance to the 187.9sqm unit that would be put in the centre of the shopfront.

It said in July: “We’re investing heavily in our branches across the country and that includes in Hinckley.”

The Crescent currently has two ATMs by the entrance to Sainsbury’s at the Rugby Road end of the centre.

A document filed with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said the application was an “entirely internal fit-out of the retail unit with minor alterations to existing fenestration”.

No additional parking or landscaping will be needed for the project.

What the unit Coventry Building Society s taking over used to look like.

The retail centre is home to several eateries, a cinema, gym and other shops.

Another group soon to take on a unit in The Crescent is Santhi restaurant, which is taking over the former home of Italian restaurant Rossini, offering an array of Indian and Sri Lankan dishes.

Bosses hope to have the venture open by the end of October, with plans for the menu including baltis, venison dishes, an aubergine stir fry, mild and creamy dishes, as well as some vegan options.

They are also planning to create an express menu for people on their lunch break or on their way to the cinema, including steamed rice, lentil, potato and cauliflower dishes.
