A developer has submitted plans to build 14 bungalows on land close to Hinckley town centre.

The Secret Garden Ltd wants to build on Hinckley reservoir, off Leicester Road opposite St Peter's Church.

The 14 acre site sits between John Street and Highfields Road.

It used to be an underground reservoir but is now redundant and has been sold by Severn Trent.

The site is right next to the red-brick water tower in that part of town.

Developers have now levelled the land in readiness to start building once planning permission is granted.

In planning documents the applicant states: "The central and sustainable nature of the site will provide accommodation which in this location is in short supply and provides easy access to the town centre with all its amenities.

"Although the properties are single storey, (some with dormer windows) the palette of materials reflects the character of the surrounding Victorian housing stock.

"Modest sized rear gardens are provided for ease of maintenance and to create a sense of community to the development as a whole.

"Fencing will comprise close boarding with some feature brick screen walling in prominent locations.

"Landscaping will be concentrated and intense and will be maintained through a management company set up exclusively for this development."

Access to the development will be from Leicester Road, near the entrance to The New Plough Inn.

Each property has a garage or two parking spaces.

The application was submitted last month and no date has been set for a decision to be made.
