Two good Samaritans have been asked to come forward after rescuing a girl who was attacked in The Crescent, Hinckley.

Leicestershire Police is appealing for the two witnesses to get in touch following an assault on the 15-year old, in which she had her hair pulled and was then punched in the head.

However, during the attack a man intervened and another member of public - a woman - kept the girl safe afterwards.

The teenager has put out the appeal with the help of police, because she wants to thank those who helped her.

The incident happened at around 1pm on Father's Day, June 16 this year.

Following the attack, 52-year old Mark Holmes pleaded guilty to the offence by beating at Leicester Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He was given a community order by magistrates.

Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, who was the investigating officer, said: "The victim and her family are extremely grateful to the two people who intervened that day and would like to say thanks.

"If you were one of those people, please get in touch."

If you were one of the people who intervened, contact Leicestershire Police on 101.
