Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp says Brendan Rodgers made the right call in ditching Celtic to join Leicester City.

Rodgers made the move from Parkhead last month after being selected as City's leading candidate to replace sacked boss Claude Puel.

The former Liverpool manager faced scathing criticism for his decision to leave Celtic, with Bhoys fans feeling they were 'lied' to, labelling Rodgers as a 'fraud'.

But experienced boss Redknapp believes Rodgers made the right call.

He told the Express: “He did his job there, he did his job brilliantly at Celtic, he’s entitled to leave if another club comes in for him.

"You want to manage in the Premier League, no disrespect to the Scottish Premiership but it doesn’t compare to the Premier League.

“He’s taken on a good club who have money to spend and they’ve got decent team, it’s a great move for Brendan.

“He did his job at Celtic just fine.”

Rodgers has enjoyed a decent start to his reign at the King Power Stadium, winning two and losing one, most recently defeating Burnley thanks to Wes Morgan's last-minute winner.

But many Celtic fans still haven't forgiven him for departing, something he understands.

Rodgers said last month: "Celtic supporters will hurt and I will understand how they feel.

"They are hurt and maybe a little bit worried in terms of what maybe happened with me leaving, but what also gave me comfort is also knowing that what we put in place there in the nearly three years is going to stabilise the club for many years going forward."
