Riyad Mahrez has revealed what he believes is the main difference between the paying style at Manchester City and that of Leicester City's during his time at the King Power Stadium.

The Algerian was a favourite during his spell in the East Midlands, playing a vital role as Leicester claimed a famous Premier League title in 2016.

In all, Mahrez spent four-and-a-half years at the club, leaving in the summer of 2018 to join Manchester City for £60m after submitting a transfer request earlier in the year.

He has since won another Premier League title, two League Cups and an FA Cup with the Citizens, but he has had to be patient, spending plenty of time on the bench.

In a recent interview, he spoke about getting used to Pep Guardiola's training, and he also pointed out why he had to adapt from the style he was used to with the Foxes.

“You have to get used to it at first but when you get used to it and you train a long time with Pep and everyone else it is easy," he told the Manchester Evening News.

“I don’t think you have to be physically strong [in the Premier League]. I adapted because I like the way we play, the way there is space, the attacking game, so that is my type of game.

“Leicester was more of a counterattacking team and at City we are more attacking, you have to break teams down. It is a completely different type of game. You have to adapt, and I think I am very good with that and happy.”

Speaking about his objectives while he is with Man City, he added: "You have to stay motivated. I am a competitor, I am here to try to win something every season, every year.

“It is part of my job and I want to do my job as best as I can. At the end of the day you want to win, you are not here just to participate.

"You want to win and that is the most important thing for me.”
