Few Leicester City fans expected Caglar Soyuncu to be making the headlines in the early stages of the new season.

Foxes fans could have been forgiven for feeling terrified after City failed to find a replacement for Harry Maguire in the summer window.

But Turkey international Soyuncu, who made only six league appearances last season, has swooped in to smooth things over with two excellent displays in as many games to begin the season.

Suddenly, the 23-year-old is a fan favourite, and very few saw that coming, including former Foxes centre-back Robert Huth.

“I watched him once or twice last year and I really wasn’t impressed," he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I understand he’s come from a different league, he’s new there, things weren’t going well with Leicester in general with Claude Puel and stuff.

“But it just shows when a manager coaches you well, believes in you, you have the full pre-season… the manager doesn’t just expect you to be good.

"I know Brendan, he’s a brilliant coach, a brilliant manager. He does grab you and really takes care of you in terms of: ‘I need you to do this better.’ He really places an emphasis on coaching day in, day out.

"‘Can you be better not just on a Thursday, I need you to be better Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, so on a Saturday, your performance is there.’

"Since he’s been there, all of the players have improved, not just Soyuncu. Vardy’s got another yard in him, he’s been playing better. They invested in Tielemans, he’s better.

"Maddison, massively improved on last year from the first couple of games. That’s all down to coaching and the confidence that comes from that."

Huth also spoke about City's potential this season, and said he would love to see them attack a cup competition, as well as tipping his former side to come close to a top six finish.

“Leicester, potentially, might even nick a top-six spot or if not, they’ll get really close," he added.

"I’d love to see them have a good cup run. Last couple of years, they got to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup and would have been nice to remember that generation of winning the league, getting promoted, get to a cup final. Hopefully they can achieve something amazing again.”

“I trained with Rodgers at Chelsea. He was under-18s coach, he was up-and-coming, Mourinho loved him. He took me aside, trained with me, talked with me about positioning.

"He loves getting the best out of you, getting the one per cent of you, making sure you’re better each day. He’s very good at it."
