Brighton star Pascal Gross has named Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire as his toughest Premier League opponent.

The German attacking midfielder believes Maguire’s mix of physical and technical attributes makes him one of the best players in the division.

Gross has faced Maguire three times since his move to England from Ingolstadt, but it is the first meeting that sticks in his mind.

Brighton travelled to the King Power Stadium in August 2017 in what was Gross’s second-ever game in the Premier League and Maguire’s first home match as a City player.

The big centre-back scored the second goal in a 2-0 win.

“In one of my first games here we met Leicester City with Harry Maguire,” Gross told Goal. “He was the toughest opponent I've ever had.

“On the one hand he has tremendous power, but on the other hand he is fast and extremely strong on the ball. It did not surprise me that he played such a great World Cup.”

Gross’ comments are in contrast to those of Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra, who believes Maguire is England’s weak link.

The two countries meet on Friday in a Euro 2020 qualifier, six days after Maguire was sent off against Vydra’s Burnley.
