Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward was substituted at half-time of Wales' 1-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago in Wrexham.

Ward made his first start for club and country since January's FA Cup third-round exit at Newport County and was rarely troubled at the Racecourse Ground.

Ward's City team-mate George Thomas was making his third appearance for his country, recognised for his form at Scunthorpe United, where he is spending the season on loan.

He played the full 90 minutes.

Gareth Bale was omitted from the Wales squad for the match, along with Derby County winger Harry Wilson.

The Real Madrid striker was among a host of senior names missing as manager Ryan Giggs rested key personnel four days before the opening Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia in Cardiff.

Record caps holder Chris Gunter and goalkeeper Ward were the only players that remained from the 1-0 defeat to Albania in November against opponents ranked 93rd in the world - 74 places below Wales.

After a largely uneventful first half, the sides went into the interval locked at 0-0.

Thomas went close to opening the scoring 10 minutes into the second half, latching onto a through-ball from Ben Woodburn before arrowing an effort at Marvin Phillip's top left-hand corner, drawing a smart save from the Soca Warriors goalkeeper.

Wales started to turn the screw on their visitors, with Woodburn heading over and Lee Evans seeing a shot blocked by goalkeeper Phillip.

And the Welsh eventually got their reward as Woodburn stooped to head home at the back post from Will Vaulks' cross two minutes into injury time.

Elsewhere, young goalkeeper Daniel Iversen featured for Denmark's Under-21s side as they staged a memorable fightback to beat Belgium 3-2.

Iversen is spending the campaign on loan at Oldham Athletic.

The Danes were 2-0 down at half-time but two injury-time goals earned them a thrilling victory as they continue their preparations for the upcoming European Championships in the summer.
