Full-time
That’s all from us for the time being.
But keep your eyes to peeled to the Mercury website from 6pm, that’s when our live coverage of City under-23s’ clash with Brighton begins.
We hope you can join us then. Bye!
West Brom boss Moore on potential Barnes recall
Harvey Barnes is in fine form for West Brom, so Claude Puel was naturally asked last week if he would be recalling the youngster in January.
His non-committal answer - “we will see” - means Baggies boss Darren Moore has now been asked for his thoughts.
Here’s what he said:
“Harvey’s their player, he’s been loaned to us and is doing a tremendous job for us.
“If there’s any manager that’s going to speak about Harvey, it’s Claude Puel.
“But we’ll approach that time when it comes to it. At the moment he’s an important player for us, Harvey.
“We continue to work with him, he continues to develop individually and also for the team.”
Iheanacho wants second Carabao Cup win
Seven games, four goals, one trophy.
That’s Kelechi Iheanacho’s record in the Carabao Cup, which returns tomorrow night.
He won the competition with Man City in 2016, scoring two goals on their route to the final.
“That was a good memory for me.
“I think it was my first trophy, so I was happy to win it and hopefully we can do that at Leicester City as well.”
Hooper in charge
Simon Hooper has been named referee for City’s trip to Newcastle next Saturday.
Here he is telling off Yohan Benalouane after the defender’s reckless challenge in a pre-season match at Burton in August 2017.
Elder and Eppiah sign new contracts
Under-23s duo Callum Elder and Josh Eppiah have each extended their City contracts by a year, to 2020.
Left-back Elder impressed on loan at Wigan last year and could get more of a look-in next season, when Christian Fuchs will have left the club.
Surely Schmeichel will get one vote...
Kasper Schmeichel will find out tonight whether he has been voted Fifa Best Goalkeeper tonight when he goes up against Thibaut Courtois and Hugo Lloris.
While the City keeper is not expected to win the award - despite his excellent World Cup campaign with Denmark - he will surely be a little annoyed if he doesn’t get one vote, at least.
That is because one member of the 10-member panel is his dad Peter! There’s also former Leicester goalkeepers Gordon Banks and Mark Schwarzer on the panel, too.
We will find out the winner later tonight. Good luck, Kasper!
How to swazz it like Maddison
How many times have you watched Maddison’s free-kick back from Saturday?
We’re almost into triple figures. Here it is again...
Oh my. What a free kick by Maddison pic.twitter.com/s2gV22Ldqa
— Billy M (@Wideoverload) September 22, 2018
But do you want to be able to take free-kicks like this yourself? If so, look no further as Maddison himself talks us through how to take the perfect free-kick.
Keep your head, son
Claude Puel has warned James Maddison not to lose his head after praise was heaped upon the young Leicester City star following his impressive start to his Premier League career.
I think he needs to keep his head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground because it’s important he continues to understand and develop. We will see in the future.
Benkovic update
On-loan Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic will undergo a scan after he suffered a recurrence of an Achilles injury ahead of Celtic’s shock defeat to Kilmarnock
We will have to see how that is. Hopefully, it’s not too bad. From being injured before he perhaps felt the same sensation.
It was right he didn’t want to risk it. He will have a scan and we will see where we are at.
Wales international winger David Cotterill has opened up about his battle with depression - and says he believes a “huge number” of other footballers are reluctant to reveal their problems for fear of reprisals from their respective clubs.
The 30-year-old, who made 24 appearances for his country and over 400 for clubs including Birmingham, Bristol City and Wigan, said he had been battling the condition since his teens.
Cotterill told the BBC: “I had an Aston Martin, the big house, anything a person could want - but you can’t help what’s in the brain.
“It’s the most powerful tool you have and what you feel can block out everything you have. And when you’re fighting that battle every day, it takes its toll.
“I’ve searched for the easiest way to commit suicide. Then you think, how can you do that when you have children, a wife?
“You kind of then have a couple of days when you feel OK again, but it keeps repeating itself.”
Carabao Cup team news
Claude Puel says City will pick a strong enough side to have a chance of beating Wolves, even though he will make changes to his side.
We will use all the squad. We have a good opportunity I think to maintain a very good level on the pitch with different players.
Striker injury concern
Newcastle have an injury concern over star striker Salomon Rondon, ahead of their game against Leicester at the weekend.
He suffered a quad injury during their 0-0 draw with Palace on Saturday. Manager Rafa Benitez said the following.
It’s too early [to say if he’ll be ready for Leicester]. He said that he was fine. He was feeling it [his quad] a little bit when he was shooting.
He said he was fine, but after you could see that he was not comfortable.
After scoring the perfect free kick at the weekend, James Maddison has recorded this on how to take the perfect free kick.
Benkovic to have scan
Filip Benkovic is set to have a scan on his injured Achilles. The City defender, on loan at Celtic, pulled out of the game against Kilmarnock on Sunday in the warm-up. We’ll have more to come on this later.
Under-23s in action tonight.
City’s Under-23s are in action today and you’ll be able to follow it here.
Ahead of the game against Brighton, defender Josh Knight said this...
It’s a really good feeling for us at the moment, being at the top of the league and winning games.
The boys have been good this season and last season was a bit disappointing because of where we finished in the league [third], but I think this season, we should be good.
The boys are buzzing. In training, it’s high tempo and we’re looking forward to the game.
I feel like I’m doing what I did last year [and] going away with the first team in pre-season helped me a lot, but every time I step out on the pitch I give everything.
I just give it 110 per cent and that’s all I can do really.
Maddison has competition to take free-kicks for Leicester
James Maddison may have justified the decision to give him the responsibility of set piece deliveries with his superb free-kick against Huddersfield Town, but he has competition.
Manager Claude Puel says the England under-21 international has the ability to win games with his set-pieces, as he proved when City came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium, but he said there is a group of players in training who are pushing him hard.
Iheanacho selection justified in more ways than one
Leicester City overcame another disastrous start to return to winning ways, beating Huddersfield 3-1 on Saturday.
Here, James Sharpe analyses five of the key talking points from the victory.
Loan watch
Celtic suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday - but Filip Benkovic missed the game after suffering an injury in the warm up.
Celtic have made the worst start to a league season for 20 years.
Leigh Griffiths headed home to put the Hoops in charge after 34 minutes, but they lost further ground on leaders Hearts after Killie upset the odds at Rugby Park.
Chris Burke equalised with a long-range drive in the 64th minute and the midfielder had a helping hand in Killie’s stunning winner, sending in a corner to the far post that Stuart Findlay was able to convert.
Miss this yesterday?
OH Leuven supporters staged a protest and called for manager Nigel Pearson’s head in their 2-0 home defeat on Saturday.
More than 100 Leuven fans skipped the first 13 minutes at the Den Dreef to show their anger at the side’s transfer policy and recent form. Just one win from the opening seven games has left Leicester City’s sister club at the bottom of the Belgian second tier, despite being pre-season title favourites.
Belgian media also reported that there were chants throughout the defeat to Roeselare calling for Pearson to be sacked.
Danny Segers, of Leuven supporters club Pigeon d’Or, explained why fans did not enter the stadium until the 13th minute.
Maddison's ability gives City team-mate the giggles
Jonny Evans has played with, and against, some of the best players in the world during his time with Manchester United, but he believes Leicester City youngster James Maddison is something special.
The experienced defender has played with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez at United, and against greats like Zlatan Ibrahimovic while playing for Northern Ireland, but he admits Maddison makes him laugh out loud at the audacity of some of his skill.
At one point in the second half Maddison, who scored a stunning free-kick as City went on to beat Huddersfield Town 3-1, brought down a high ball on the edge of the Terriers box with an audacious touch which Evans enjoyed.
