Leicester City should be higher in the Premier League table than they are, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi believes.

The Nigeria international believes City’s ninth place position in the table is not a fair reflection of their capabilities and admits they should have taken more points during their recent unbeaten run.

City went six Premier League games without defeat before they were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but they drew four of those games.

They came from behind against West Ham United, Brighton and Fulham, and were held to a goalless draw at home by Burnley, despite having 22 shots on goal in the game.

“Honestly we deserve more,” said Ndidi.

“We should have done more because we know the games we drew and the games we lost and so I think we should have done more.

“We should have climbed up more than ninth now, so it is something we should learn from and something we should move on learn from these mistakes.

“We keep saying they are mistakes but we have to do what we can.

“For me an unbeaten run is when you win, if we had won five games then it becomes really unbeaten. Because the draws we really didn’t accept it normally.

“We accept only one result because we were one man down. For the other ones it is something we should have gotten a better result, so for me I don’t see that as an unbeaten run because we would have collected more points from these games.”

European qualification is still the target for City and Ndidi believes it is still achievable this season.

“It is still possible,” he said.

“Nothing is impossible now. I said earlier the main purpose of it is to get as many points as possible. As the games come it is never easy but if we try to get the points we will know where we are in the table.

“If we don’t get it then it is not possible.”

The games are coming thick and fast now for Ndidi and City and the Nigerian said they had to get a good points return to stay in the hunt going into 2019.

“It is tough because playing Saturday and playing middle of the week is kind of stressful for players but we have nothing to worry about,” he said. “It is our job we need to do it.

“And the greatest advantage of it is getting as many points in this period, because it really makes you stay up the league and the table.

“If you get much points in this period, it is better for the team.”
