Leicester City have a surprisingly positive record of winning games after receiving a red card, with Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Burnley their latest good result when down to 10 men.

Harry Maguire was given his marching orders after only four minutes against the Clarets for a last-man foul on Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

Despite that, James Maddison opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick before Dwight McNeil equalised for the hosts. Wes Morgan was City's hero as he headed home Youri Tielemans’ cross in the final minute to secure a dramatic three points for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

The result now makes it five wins in their last 18 games since promotion to the Premier League in which City have gone down to 10 men. Not only that, but City have also managed six draws.

It all adds to an impressive points haul of 21 from 18 games.

Leicester’s previous win having gone down to 10 men actually occurred this season as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 despite Jamie Vardy’s straight red card for a challenge on Matt Doherty.

Their previous success came last season in a trip to the AMEX Stadium to play Brighton. Vicente Iborra had opened the scoring for City before Wilfred Ndidi was sent off for two bookable offences. The three points were secured in the final throws as Vardy stabbed home.

It then takes a gap of over three years and a run of eight games without a win when down to 10 men to get to the previous time that City won after seeing red.

Clashing with Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium in January 2015, Paul Konchesky scored on the stroke of half-time. Matty James and Ciaran Clark were both given red cards in added time with City running out slender victors.

They had done exactly the same only two weeks earlier too, surprisingly. Taking on Hull City in a vital clash at the KCOM Stadium back in December 2014, the Foxes needed a win to ease the pressure of relegation upon their return to the Premier League.

A wonderful solo goal from Riyad Mahrez gave Leicester a much-needed lead. The hero against Villa, Konchesky was shown two yellow cards against the Tigers but it mattered not as Nigel Pearson’s City held on to confirm their victory.

Other memorable results include the 2-2 draw on Boxing Day 2017 against Manchester United, in which Harry Maguire scored a late equaliser after Daniel Amartey’s two yellow cards, as well as coming from 2-0 down to draw at Stoke following Vardy’s straight red and the draw with West Ham in the title-winning campaign, Leo Ulloa netting an injury-time penalty after another Vardy dismissal.
