Leicester City are still suffering from the death of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, making their below-par run of form “understandable”, former England captain Alan Shearer believes.

City went five league games unbeaten following the fatal helicopter crash in October, but picked up just two wins in that run.

They have since lost their last two, failing to score in both the home loss to Spurs and Saturday’s defeat at Crystal Palace.

Recent results have seen City slip to 12th in the table but Shearer is convinced they will finish in the top half.

“That’s one win in six but that’s very understandable with what the football club has had to go through,” Shearer said on Match of the Day.

“Leicester will finish in the top 10, I’m sure of that.”

City’s failure to score was in part thanks to a superb save from Vicente Guaita, the debutant Palace goalkeeper getting down quickly to tip Jamie Vardy’s goalbound toe-poke onto the post.

Shearer’s Match of the Day co-pundit Danny Murphy was full of praise for the Spaniard.

“Watch this for a save to save your team, unbelievable,” said the former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder.

“It’s a bit of luck that it came back to him off the post but you earn your luck. Palace have had plenty of games this year where they've felt they've been hard done by.

“That’s a wonderful save and he can be very pleased with himself. He wasn’t called upon that much in the game, so to concentrate and make that save, credit it to him.”
