The summer transfer window is getting closer as clubs from all around Europe begin to plot their business ahead of next season.

Leicester City are one of those clubs and there's plenty to do as far as Brendan Rodgers and his recruitment staff are concerned, especially with former recruitment boss Eduardo Macia having left the club.

Rodgers first needs to hire a new head of recruitment, and that appointment will be followed by a quick turnaround as he looks to get his summer targets in through the door at the King Power Stadium.

But what positions will the Northern Irishman be targeting this summer? And what should be his goal from the fast-approaching summer window?

Below, we take a look at what the perfect 2019 summer transfer window may look like for Rodgers and City.

Keeping hold of the stars

First and foremost, City have to make sure they keep hold of their star men.

They didn't create this youth-based policy to simply sell the players to clubs in the top six.

It was created to ensure the success of the first-team, to ensure the first-team personnel was based around young players who have been developed by the club.

The Foxes have been successful in that sense so far, the likes of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell remain at the club despite previous interest from other clubs.

Though City will likely face more fierce competition to keep hold of those stars this summer, and you can add James Maddison to that mix, too, with Tottenham linked with a possible summer move.

The Foxes must stick to their guns and ensure those players do not depart this summer.

The project must be seen through with the players it was based around, otherwise City risk starting at square one, or even worse, abandoning the plan altogether.

Land Tielemans

The next order of business is to wrap up the permanent signing of star loan midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian is a player of real quality, scoring once and assisting twice in his six games for City so far, and he has already become something of a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium.

Tielemans could cost City up to £40 million, with Monaco keen to make a big profit on the 21-year-old.

But that figure could be offset if the French club remain interested in signing Adrien Silva on a permanent deal.

It's not often a club gets an opportunity to sign a player who will almost certainly be a success.

City have had a chance to preview the Belgian, to see how he adapts to the way they play during his current loan spell.

He's impressed, and now they must look to make him their marquee signing this summer.

Sign a winger

It's abundantly clear there's not enough competition for City's wingers.

That's partly a by-product of Marc Albrighton being injured, leaving Rodgers, and indeed his predecessor Claude Puel, with few options.

But if City are truly going for Europe next season, which Rodgers has suggested, then wide options of Gray, Barnes, Albrighton and Ghezzal aren't sufficient.

City need wingers who are a constant threat to the opposition and that's not currently the case.

The Foxes are having to create far too much down the middle, hence why Tielemans and Maddison have become indispensable in midfield.

City need to add to their winger department and they need to do so with quality so the likes of Gray, Barnes and Albrighton are all in constant competition to their place - that's how you get the best out of players.

Sign competition for Vardy

City also need to sign a striker who is going to be genuine competition for Jamie Vardy.

Forget a back-up, City need someone who will challenge Vardy for his place because, let's not forget, the City talisman is now 32 years of age, the Foxes need to be prepared with someone of similar quality to step in once his form does start to dip.

Rodgers already has a back-up striker in Kelechi Iheanacho, who is showing no signs of coming to life any time soon.

Now he has to bring someone in who is going to get the best out of Vardy and provide genuine hope of a starting striker both next season and in the years to come.

A striker of that quality doesn't come cheap, of course, but City could certainly spend less than they did on Islam Slimani - £29 million - and get a player of genuine quality.

Aleksandar Mitrovic at Fulham comes to mind. He's at a club who are almost certainly going down, meaning he is very likely to leave in the summer.

The Serbian also fits City's game perfectly, he holds the ball up and offers something for the wingers to aim for when crossing the ball. He's also under 25, meaning he fits City's policy of signing younger players.

He's a different option to Vardy and someone who could genuinely challenge for a starting place.

He would cost somewhere in the region of £25 million, perhaps a little more, but even beyond the Serbian, there are plenty of options if you look carefully enough.

Whether it's Mitrovic or someone else, City, who are the second-lowest scorers in the top 12, need to strengthen their striker department ahead of next season.

Who gets sold?

Now for the outgoings.

Firstly, £22 million-signing Silva is likely to leave, especially if City want to reduce that Tielemans fee.

The Portuguese is impressing at Monaco and given he failed to fit in at City, it seems a waste not to take advantage of that.

Elsewhere, Eldin Jakupovic could well be shown the door.

According to Spotrac, the 34-year-old is paid £23,000 per week to be City's third choice goalkeeper, not even featuring in cup competitions. That's a wasted wage and a role that could be filled by an up and coming youth keeper like Daniel Iversen.

And lastly, Slimani needs to be ushered out following a torrid spell in the East Midlands.

He has struggled at Fenerbahce on loan this season, and the Turkish club even tried to offload him early from his loan spell.

City will have to take a big loss on the 30-year-old, they will already have accepted this was a horrible investment.

But they certainly can't afford to have him stuck on the periphery of the squad, picking up a large pay cheque. The Foxes will have to get rid this summer, especially if they want to invest in new blood.
